Jak podaje oficjalna strona Biblioteki Kongresu, Krajowy Rejestr Nagrań Dźwiękowych Biblioteki Kongresu zaprojektowany w celu „utrzymania i zachowania nagrań dźwiękowych i zbiorów nagrań dźwiękowych o znaczeniu kulturowym, historycznym lub estetycznym”.
